A Story of Redemption, Restoration, Calling & Promise
If you’ve spent much time around Pastor Adam Thompson, you may have heard him say:
“I had a drug problem from an early age—my mama and daddy drug me to church every time the doors were open!”
It’s a phrase that usually brings a smile, but behind it is an important part of Adam’s story.
Adam was raised in church by parents who made sure that if the church doors were open, their family was there. From an early age, he was surrounded by the Word of God, worship, prayer, and people of faith.
Seeds were being planted long before anyone could see what they would become.
Even as a young boy, Adam knew there was a calling on his life.
But knowing you are called and surrendering to that calling are not always the same thing.
As Adam grew older, he began to stray from the foundation upon which he had been raised. The humorous “drug problem” he jokes about from childhood eventually gave way to a very real and serious battle with addiction.
Yet even when Adam wandered away from God, God never lost sight of Adam.
The seeds were still there.
The calling was still there.
The gifts were still there.
And most importantly—
God was still there.
A God-Given Gift & A Nashville Dream
Music has always been a part of Adam’s life.
God blessed him with a natural musical talent, and even during the years Adam struggled with addiction, that gift remained.
During that season of his life, Adam became part of a country band. Doors began opening, and the group found themselves on the verge of an opportunity Adam had dreamed about.
They were preparing to go to Nashville, with the possibility of signing with a record label.
It looked like Adam’s musical dreams might finally become reality.
But the opportunity fell through.
At the time, it looked like a closed door.
Adam couldn’t have known that God would one day show him that the dream wasn’t necessarily wrong—
God simply had a different purpose for the gift.
But before Adam could understand that, his life would take another dramatic turn.
The Accident That Should Have Taken Him Out
Adam’s journey eventually led to a devastating car accident—one that could have taken his life.
But it didn’t.
Because Adam’s story wasn’t finished.
BUT GOD.
What could have been the end became the beginning of something greater.
The addiction didn’t have the final word.
The accident didn’t have the final word.
The mistakes didn’t have the final word.
God had placed a calling upon Adam’s life long before Adam understood where it would lead, and that calling was greater than everything that had tried to take him out.
Rehab, Restoration & Rededication
Adam entered a rehabilitation program, and it was there that God began doing a deep work in his life.
Adam rededicated his life to the Lord and began the journey of becoming the man God had called him to be.
God began restoring what addiction had tried to destroy.
And during that season, God began dealing with Adam about something else:
his music.
The Nashville opportunity that had once seemed like a lost dream began to make sense in a different way.
God began showing Adam that He could take him places with the musical gift He had given him—
but it would be for God’s glory, not the world’s.
The gift hadn’t disappeared.
The dream hadn’t necessarily died.
The purpose was being redeemed.
Adam began surrendering his musical talent to the Lord and writing and singing songs about Jesus, redemption, deliverance, grace, and the God who had rescued him.
The dream stopped being about getting on a bigger stage.
It became about having a platform—big or small—from which to tell somebody about Jesus.
One Promise & Taking Jesus to the Streets
Adam didn’t wait until his story looked perfect before he started telling people what Jesus was doing in his life.
While still in the rehabilitation program, he began going out into the streets sharing his testimony.
Adam helped put together a group called One Promise, and together they began taking the Gospel directly to people through what became known as street ministry.
They sang.
They testified.
They prayed.
They told people about Jesus.
Street ministry wasn’t born from a polished platform or inside a church building.
It was born while Adam himself was still walking through restoration.
And it continues today.
One Promise and street ministry remain an important part of Adam’s ministry.
From those early days until now, Adam has carried a simple conviction:
If we’re going to reach people, sometimes we have to go where they are.
The Gospel was never intended to remain within four walls.
And God was about to demonstrate that truth in Adam’s life in ways he could never have planned.
The Gas Station Preacher
Years later, God crossed Adam’s path with a Christian artist in one of the most ordinary places imaginable:
a gas station.
But when Pastor Adam is around, an ordinary conversation can quickly become a conversation about Jesus.
Adam’s boldness about his faith and his willingness to talk about the Lord wherever he goes made an impression.
That encounter became the beginning of a relationship and helped earn Adam a fitting nickname:
“The Gas Station Preacher.”
What started as a conversation at a gas station became another God-ordained connection.
Adam and the artist eventually had opportunities to collaborate on music.
And then God did something Adam could never have orchestrated on his own.
God took him on tour.
The man who once dreamed of traveling with a country band began traveling around the nation sharing his testimony and singing music he had written about Jesus.
God put Adam on stages before crowds and gave him opportunities to tell people what Jesus had done in his life.
The stages became bigger.
The audiences became larger.
The miles stretched across the nation.
But this time, it wasn’t about Adam.
It was about Jesus.
Years earlier, Adam thought music might take him somewhere for the world.
While in rehab, God showed him that He could take him there—
but He would do it for His glory.
And He did.
The dream Adam thought had fallen apart hadn’t simply been denied.
It had been redeemed.
Sometimes God doesn’t destroy the dream.
He changes the purpose of the dream.
God took the natural gift He had placed inside Adam, combined it with a testimony only He could write, and put Adam on the BIG stage for Jesus.
Whether Adam is standing before a large crowd, singing on a street corner with One Promise, preaching from the pulpit, or talking to a stranger while pumping gas, the message remains the same:
“If God can do it for me, He can do it for you.”
The country stage may have been the dream.
But the Gospel became the calling.
And while God was opening doors for Adam to reach people, He was also beginning something much closer to home.
The Living Room Encounter
The Lord began laying a burden on the hearts of Adam and his wife, Georgianna, to create a place where people could gather around the Word of God and genuinely encounter Jesus.
They didn’t have a church building.
They didn’t need one.
They had a living room and a willingness to say yes.
So Adam and Georgianna opened the doors of their home and began a Bible study called:
The Living Room Encounter
What began as a simple act of obedience blossomed into more than they ever imagined.
People came.
Relationships were formed.
The Word was taught.
Lives were touched.
God moved.
Eventually, Adam and Georgianna felt the Lord leading them to take another step of faith and begin holding Sunday morning services right there in their home.
The Living Room Encounter was becoming something more.
God was building a church.
Before long, their home could no longer hold what God was growing.
From the Living Room to the Garage
When they outgrew their living room, Adam’s parents—the same parents who had “drug him to church” as a little boy—once again became part of the story.
They graciously opened their garage and allowed the growing congregation to hold services there.
There was no elaborate sanctuary.
No polished church campus.
Just a group of people hungry for God, gathering wherever a door had been opened.
And God continued to move.
Those garage services became another chapter in a story that was teaching Adam, Georgianna, their family, and everyone walking alongside them:
When God gives the vision, He will make a way.
And then God opened another door.
They Saw a Promise
God provided a building.
To the natural eye, it was dilapidated and needed tremendous work.
But Adam and Georgianna didn’t simply see what was in front of them.
They saw a promise.
And they weren’t the only ones.
God had surrounded them with people who believed in what He was doing and could see the promise too.
Where some might have seen an old, broken-down building, they saw a place where lost people could find Jesus.
They saw broken lives being restored.
They saw addicts finding freedom.
They saw families worshiping together.
They saw children learning about Jesus.
They saw believers growing in their faith.
They saw disciples being made and sent back into the world to reach somebody else.
They saw a promise.
Adam and Georgianna stepped forward in faith, believing that if God had provided the place, He would also provide what was needed to fulfill the vision.
And He did.
God sent an abundance of resources.
He sent willing hands.
He sent generous hearts.
He sent people ready to work.
Together, they watched as what once appeared broken and forgotten was transformed into what we now know as:
Thee Encounter Church
In many ways, that building became a physical picture of the message God had already written through Adam’s own life.
Where others might see brokenness, God sees purpose.
Where others might see something forgotten, God sees value.
Where others might see an ending, God sees a beginning.
And where others saw a dilapidated building—
God’s people saw a promise.
A Family Called to Serve
Through every chapter of this journey, Adam has been blessed to walk alongside his wife, Georgianna, and their beautiful children, Aidan and Alivia.
For the Thompson family, ministry isn’t simply something that happens on Sunday morning.
It is part of the life they share together.
Aidan and Alivia have watched the journey unfold—from gatherings in their family home, through services in their grandparents’ garage, to watching the promise of Thee Encounter Church come to life.
Behind the pulpit, One Promise, street ministry, the songs, the testimony, the tours, and the church is a family that has experienced firsthand what God can do when ordinary people are willing to say:
“Yes, Lord.”
Adam and Georgianna are grateful for the privilege of raising Aidan and Alivia in a home where they can witness God’s faithfulness and learn that serving Jesus isn’t confined to a church building.
It is a way of life.
The Heart Behind the Pastor
Today, Pastor Adam serves with a heart shaped by where God has brought him from.
He knows what it is to wander.
He knows what it is to struggle.
He knows what it is to need another chance.
And most importantly, he knows what it is to be:
Found.
Forgiven.
Restored.
Redeemed.
And called forward by Jesus Christ.
That’s why his heart extends far beyond the people already sitting inside the church.
Pastor Adam desires to see lost souls saved, addicts delivered, broken lives restored, families strengthened, believers discipled, and people from every background experience a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ.
The same heart that sent him into the streets while he was still in rehabilitation continues to shape his ministry today.
Because for Pastor Adam and Thee Encounter Church:
The building was never the destination.
It is a place to encounter Jesus, equip His people, make disciples—and send them back out.
Full Circle
From a little boy whose parents “drug him to church” every time the doors were open…
To a young man running from his calling.
From addiction to restoration.
From a country band and dreams of Nashville…
To rehab and rededication.
From One Promise to the streets.
From a gas station encounter…
To stages across the nation.
From the streets to a living room.
From the living room to a garage.
From the garage to a promise.
And from that promise came Thee Encounter Church.
But the story doesn’t end at the church doors.
It goes right back to the streets.
Because Jesus said:
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…” — Matthew 28:19
The country stage may have been the dream.
But the Gospel became the calling.
The building may have become Thee Encounter Church.
But the building was never the destination.
From the streets, to the living room, to the garage, to the church, to stages across the nation—and right back to the streets—the calling remains the same:
GO. TELL THEM ABOUT JESUS.
Today, Pastor Adam, Georgianna, Aidan, Alivia, and the family of Thee Encounter Church continue moving forward in faith, believing that what God began years ago is only the beginning.
Pastor Adam’s life is living proof that your darkest chapter does not have to become your final chapter.
Addiction didn’t get the last word.
The accident didn’t get the last word.
The closed doors didn’t get the last word.
The mistakes didn’t get the last word.
GOD DID.
When you look at everything that should have stopped the story, every door that seemed to close, every place that appeared broken, and every moment when the future seemed impossible, there are two words that tell the story of Pastor Adam Thompson:
BUT GOD.
One encounter with Jesus can change a life.
One changed life can change a family.
One surrendered family can impact a community.
And one act of obedience can become more than you ever imagined.
The story is still being written.
